The Marks Left Behind
The Marks Left Behind

I hand stitch used undergarments into soft sculptures. A material that immediately brings me into an intimate space. These human scale female figures of white fabrics are either abstracted or amputated. Reminders of ancient classic marble sculptures. The subtle palate I use is dramatically interrupted by dense black hair tusks or red sewing thread, expressing sexuality and the human infrastructure of veins and blood.
The use of underwear represents the last layer of clothes touching the body before complete nakedness. The last covering surrendered before we give ourselves away.
Transforming women's rejected undergarments I stitch together my interpretations of their past, their destinies, their secrets and their marks left behind.
